ABOUT
ME
Rory Gory (pronoun flexible) is an award-winning writer, director, and content producer. They currently serve as a Digital Marketing Manager for The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people. Rory engages a social media audience of 1.5 million followers and oversees the organization’s social media campaigns and messaging, ensuring that all content is inclusive and authentic.
Rory’s debut feature film, THE AUDIENCE, won the Audience Choice Award at the Brooklyn Girl Film Festival and her script ROSE ABSOLUTE placed in the Final Draft Big Break competition. Their guidelines for messaging on the subjects of suicide, mental health, and identity have been used by Facebook, Capitol Records, and Netflix. Their writing has been featured in Teen Vogue, them., USA Today, and Dictionary.
Rory graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media, completed at the Berlin University of the Arts in Germany, as well as a Certificate in Digital Filmmaking from Boston University.
Rory identifies as nonbinary and queer, or genderqueer and bisexual, or genderfluid and pansexual, or whichever words we end up landing on for people who have fluid genders and sexualities. They are not very attached to their pronouns, so she is fine, or whatever. As a feminist and someone often gendered as a woman, she’s also interested in the complexities of how perception of gender informs lived experience. Just don’t ask unprompted questions about her “real name” or body, which is an awkward thing to do to strangers anyways. If you’re worrying about how to be respectful to nonbinary and transgender people, read this guide they created with The Trevor Project, a Guide to Being an Ally to Transgender and Nonbinary Youth.
